Acting to save energy and create jobs

LA CROSSE, Wisc. (WXOW) - State Commerce Secretary Rich Leinenkugel was part of a group that stopped at Honda Motorwerks of La Crosse Monday afternoon to talk about the Clean Energy Jobs Act.

The goal of this Act is to have 25% of energy fuels coming from renewable sources by 2025.

Currently, Wisconsin is at about 5%, which is double what it was 2 years ago.
Rich Leinenkugel says, "We should not fall behind in the state of Wisconsin, so we need to look at adjusting our renewable portfolio standards and then importantly creating jobs in businesses that will go out and achieve energy efficiency."
Honda Motorwerks is just one example of a business that has been doing this for years by creating and selling energy efficient vehicles such as the electric and natural gas powered cars.

Chris Schneider of Honda Motorwerks says, "We have been talking about alternative energy vehicles here for over 10 years and over that period of time we have been able to double our employment. So the reason that they were here today is because of the number of conservative energy jobs we´ve created right here in La Crosse."

Honda is now establishing a compressed natural gas fueling station so owners of the CNG vehicles can stop at Honda and fuel up.

This will again lead to cleaner energy along with more jobs.

The group also stopped at Gundersen Lutheran today for a presentation on their Green Projects, followed by a walking tour of La Crosse City Brewery and their Solar Parking Ramp.
